Hair can get into the drainage system through plug holes, it can wrap around the structures, combine with soap and any other debris, resulting in a large blockage either at just below surface level or further into the drainage system. A reaction between the minerals in water and fatty acids within the soap creates soap scum. This soap scum can build up in our pipes and block up the drain. It can also attract mould and mildew causing bad odours.


Flushing any wipes, sanitary protection, nappies and baby wipes can also cause blockages. If your drainage system has some structural defects that are unknow to you, flushing these items can result with them sticking to a misplaced joint and the more toilet roll etc are flushed will keep catching and building up, eventually blocking the entire system.

Fat from cooking can easy solidify and congeal in pipework, resulting in blocked drains.
